Compliance Management
Standing up a Compliance Management Plan for an acquired direct retail brokerage business within a Top 10 Bank.
A Top 10 bank acquired another national bank primarily for its core banking business. The acquisition included a direct retail brokerage that represented a wholly new line of business for the acquiring bank. On a compressed timeline and at the direction of regulators, a Compliance Management Plan (CMP) needed to be created to cover 100+ new regulatory requirements across multiple regulators.
Using a blended team of legacy Compliance resources, an effort was initiated to identify and catalog each new regulatory requirement and map it to a new control and test plan within the acquiring firm’s Compliance Management Plan process. In order to more efficiently deliver on the scope of work, a creative Agile methodology was deployed to break the volume of regulatory requirements into weekly increments to be delivered as final product to the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) for review and approval.
Owing largely to the deployment of the Agile methodology, the process through which work product was delivered to the CCO continuously approved while giving the team weekly wins over a sustained period of high work volume on non-negotiable regulatory timelines. Those timelines were ultimately met and the new line of business launched consistent with the overall merger integration plan.
